Activities and things to do

You will find that there is so much to do in Hermanus that you will wish that you had planned to stay longer. We shall be happy to book the following activities* for your enjoyment and pleasure.

Arts and Crafts
The Saturday market at Lemm’s Corner provides a wonderful selection of locally handcrafted goods and artworks. The market also functions on public holidays and daily during the Christmas season.

Art Galleries
In and around Hermanus are wonderful galleries exhibiting works by local artists. If you are an avid artist, pop into Sandy’s Art Shop in Mitchell Street for your art supplies. (See links page)

Beaches
Spend hours and days relaxing on the most beautiful beaches in South Africa from the stretches of long white bleached sands to the sheltered, intimate coves in Hermanus and surrounds, or splash in the tidal pools, ride the waves or take a sunset stroll along the edge of the Kleinriver lagoon.

Bicycle Trails
Enjoy the scenery by bike on the bike trails along the mountain paths and beach paths.

Bird Watching
A bird hide on the Kleinriver lagoon offers views of about 130 species including pelicans and flamingos. The mountains, coastline, river and lagoon offer wonderful viewing in this bird lover’s paradise.

Cliff Paths
Enjoy walking along the world famous 10km seafront cliff path which is wheelchair friendly from the Windsor Hotel to the Marine Hotel.

Fishing*
From fly fishing in the dams and offshore angling at the edge of the lagoon, the rocks or the sandy beaches, to deep-sea charters, the avid fisherman has a wide choice.

Great White Shark Viewing*
Learn about these wonderful creatures of the deep from the surface of the boat or don the wetsuit and brave the cage for an experience never to be forgotten. Trips may be booked through us. (See Links page)

Hiking Trails and Fernkloof Nature Reserve
Over 50kms of hiking trails traverse the reserve through un-spoilt coastal mountain fynbos, offering spectacular panoramic views of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and Walker Bay.

Horse riding*
Mountain paths or beach rides. Enjoy the scenery on horseback!

Kayaking
Launching from the new harbour on a calm day for a paddle is the ultimate experience for the more adventurous. (See links page)

Museums
Visit the Old Harbour Museum and the De Wet Photographic Museum where the history of Hermanus is told in pictures.

A diving academy at the New Harbour offers training and equipment hire. Explore the reefs, the marine reserve and the many ship wrecks along the coast.

Sport*
Play golf on the world class Hermanus and Arabella Golf Courses. Tennis, squash, bowls are also locally accessible.

Township Tours*
Wilson Salukazana will show you around the Zwelihle Township. Experience the wonderful vibe in this South African black township.

Whale Watching*
Hermanus has the best land based whale watching in the world. View the whales from the cliff paths and at the lookout points or book a boat trip with the registered permit holders and take a cruise to visit these wonderful creatures.

Wine Tasting
Hermanus has a wonderful wine route boasting the most southerly vineyards in the world. Enjoy a day discovering our wines in the Hemel en Aarde Valley and enjoy a lunch prepared at the cellars of some of the wineries.

Yachting
A private club, but guests are welcome to enjoy the surroundings and stay for tea and cake.
